University College Dublin is Ireland’s largest university, with a rich history spanning over 150 years, and a distinguished tradition of leadership in scholarship and society.
Its origins date back to 1854 when the great 19th century educationalist Cardinal John Henry Newman opened the doors of the Catholic University of Ireland. Newman’s ambition was to create a great European university that would attract world-class scholars and provide excellent education to Irish and international students.
Over 150 years later, UCD retains Newman’s educational ideals of opening young minds and educating students who will be leaders in society. The academic structure comprises 5 Colleges and 35 Schools and the university offers Ireland’s most comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate. Approximately 6,000 of the 22,000-strong student body are engaged in postgraduate study and research through the university’s five graduate schools and its institutes and centres.
The university’s undergraduate schools, sports facilities and student residences are housed on the 132-hectare Belfield campus, just 4km south of Dublin city centre. Excellent facilities include well-resourced libraries, state-of-the art labs and extensive computing facilities. Student health, welfare and counselling services are second-to none and there are superb opportunities for sports and recreation.

How to get here
By bus
Dublin Bus
Dublin Bus numbers 3, 10, 11B, and the 17 all provide direct services to the Belfield campus. The numbers 3, 10 and 11B can be boarded at O'Connell Street.
Dublin Bus numbers 46 (all routes) and the 145 stop directly opposite the main Stillorgan gate of the campus. The gate is a short walk over the bridge crossing the dual-carraigeway. The buses depart from Parnell Square making stops at D'Olier Street, Nassau Street, Kildare Street and Leeson Street in the city centre.

Aircoach
Aircoach operate a bus service from Dublin Airport to Leopardstown / Sandyford / Stillorgan which passes UCD.

Bus Eireann
Bus Éireann provides a nationwide bus service, with most major areas having a regular link to Dublin. The majority of Dublin services terminate in Busáras (Central Bus Station, Dublin) from where it is a short walk to O'Connell Street for connecting buses to UCD.
Bus Éireann operates two free daily shuttle services from UCD, Belfield Campus to Busáras (Central Bus Station, Dublin). These services operate daily to Busáras, during the college term and are available for holders of valid Bus Éireann tickets only. In addition to this, several services from the Greater Dublin area directly serve UCD, Belfield Campus.

By train
Dublin is served by two main railway stations: Connolly Station and Heuston Stations. It is a short walk from Connolly Station to O'Connell Street, where the Dublin Bus numbers 3, 10 and 11B can be boarded for UCD. There are frequent connecting services from Heuston Station to the city centre.
