Fiona Hallinan | Ireland

Fiona Hallinan, sometimes called Fink, is a Dublin-based artist recently graduated from an M.Sc. in Multimedia Systems. Her work is concerned with patterns in society, technological fear and the interactions between human beings. She works in a range of media, including drawing, photography, sound, installation and the organisation of relational art events.

Her work explores hidden stories and non-histories of physical places. Audio tours are used as a means of framing reality for the viewer, capturing moments meanings and narratives throughout the duration of a walk. In creating work of a strictly site specific and temporal nature, Hallinan intends to reject the notion of ownership in art. Her works exist in the mind of the viewer and are completed by their participation. They play with traditional notions of the gallery space, leading viewers from an interior exhibition space out into real spaces, then layering those with meaning, some true, some fictional and some abstracted intuitions.

Hallinan attempts to invite the viewer into her process through their walk. Participants are given hand drawn maps to hold on their journey, representing the multiple layers of doodles, photographs and abstract images Hallinan herself creates in researching and forging walks.
